Hi! I'm Teagan O'Connell, a junior journalism and English student at Stony Brook University.
I am the Arts & Culture Editor of The Statesman
I am also the President and Program Director of WUSB.fm
As a head section editor, I oversee everything Arts & Culture. I recruit new writers to join our section, encourage writers to break out of their comfort zone when it comes to writing (i.e. interviewing, covering campus events, etc), create a pitches for writers to take on, edit articles (OF COURSE) that adhere to The Statesman style guidelines as while as AP style guidelines, give contructive feedback to writers and help them when stuck, maintain a communication line between writers and managing editors, hire and train new assitants, host weekly section meetings, and of course, all the while still writing articles myself.
I am glad you asked. As both President and Program Director, I plan weekly e-board meetings, keep a line of communication with out 50+ community members, advertise our club, create announcements, respond to emails daily, respond to emergencies at our station, schedule fill-ins, create our annual music events such as "The Bash", train new DJs on how to use the equipent and test them on what they learned, email bands, and also host my own radio show!
I would also like to use this space to talk about two thing I am proud of.
